Ius Omnibus comments on the European Commission’s public consultation on the Consumer Agenda 2025–2030 and the Action Plan on Consumers in the Single Market

Ius Omnibus today submitted its contribution to the European Commission’s public consultation on the Consumer Agenda 2025–2030 and the related Action Plan on Consumers in the Single Market.

In its submission, the consumer protection association stressed the importance of adapting European policies to ongoing digital, technological, and social transformations, while underlining the need to ensure greater transparency, regulatory harmonisation, and effective protection against unfair commercial practices in the digital environment.

Among the proposals presented, Ius Omnibus highlighted:

Harmonising and simplifying EU consumer protection legislation, favouring regulations over directives;

Reviewing the Geo-blocking Regulation to eliminate discrimination in cross-border access to goods and services;

Strengthening consumer protection in the digital environment, including updating the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive and addressing new manipulative online techniques such as dark patterns;

Ensuring accessibility and equal access for vulnerable consumers, particularly regarding essential digital products and services;

Enhancing enforcement and governance mechanisms, with stronger European powers to act against large-scale infringements;

Reducing administrative burdens for SMEs, notably through the creation of a digital one-stop shop;

Incorporating a non-regression principle for consumer rights and exploring regulatory sandboxes with consumer association involvement.

According to Lena Hornkohl, President of Ius Omnibus, “it is essential that the new Consumer Agenda strengthens citizens’ trust in the European Single Market, guaranteeing a high level of protection and adapting existing tools to emerging digital and social realities.”

Ius Omnibus reaffirms its commitment to promoting a fairer, more innovative, and sustainable Single Market, placing consumers at the heart of European priorities.
